The UN Proposed Agreement

Pablo then said, “I came here thinking if I liked what the four of you say, I would make an offer to CPW. I not only appreciated what CPW had to say; I loved it. Therefore, here is what the UN would like to do in funding your initial development with minimum UN exposure. Pablo discussed his seven-point plan for CPW’s funding. The major feature is a monthly stipend of $160,000 during the startup period. [[#24 – UN CPW Startup Funding]]

“So if I understand the implications of your seven-points, the UN is financing our development and will be paid back a reasonable percentage of our “get starting funds’ once we have some clients,” I said.

“You are right, Bret, and very sharp to understand the concept so quickly,” said Pablo.

“Can we have a minute to discuss your offer?” I asked Pablo. I did not need time, and I could tell Jodi and Dwayne were as happy as me.

“Sure, I have to go to the bathroom, you three can go downstairs for a few minutes and have your discussion,” said Pablo.

“Sounds great,” we said in unison.

“Jodi, can you take the laptop so Jeffrey can join us,” I said. As I walked outside our suite, I said, “there are chairs right near the elevator, we will go there for a couple of minutes.

Once we sat down in the chairs by the elevator, Dwayne said, “Fantastic!”

“I am delighted,” said Jodi.

“I agree this is a great deal for CPW. We need to understand all the legal ramifications of the contract. We need to have our lawyer look it over.” I said. It was better than a great deal; we were on our way to success. Getting funded, I always thought of as the toughest hurdle for us to achieve.

“You are right,” Jodi said with Dwayne nodding his agreement.

“I am delighted how fast we are becoming a viable organization,” said Jeffrey remotely.

“OK, let us go back and discuss it with Pablo,” I said. Pablo was still in the restroom for another minute, as we only took about forty-five-seconds in the hallway. When he finally came out, I said, “We love your offer, it seems more than equitable. I am sure we can have an answer in a few days. We will call our lawyer, right after our meeting. Would you like our lawyer, or do you want the UN lawyers to create a contract?”

“The UN will create a contract. I will talk with my legal department when I return,” Pablo said.

“Are you going to be back in your office Tuesday,” I asked.

“Yes, I should be at the office at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday,” Pablo said.

“We are here usually around 6:30 a.m. PST, which is an hour after you arrive,” said Jodi.

“We sincerely appreciate your confidence in us,” I said.

“The United Nations is delighted the three of you have joined forces with Dr. Friedman,” said Pablo. “Seeing your team attempt to solve the terrorist issue encourages me to try to get my twin sons, who are sixteen years old, to attend Stanford.
